Evaluation Process

In order to join our off-leash group play, all dogs must pass our off-leash evaluation. Initial evaluations are performed Mondays & Fridays in one hour time slot between 10am to 4pm. We will sit and speak to you first, then bring your pup back into group for a small introduction. During that time you may step out to run an errand or grab some coffee, and upon your return we will discuss the best care plan. The cost of the evaluation will be $35, which will be credited towards your first day.

Prior to meet and greet, all dogs must be current in Rabies, DHPP, Bordetella (aka Kennel Cough), and have a Negative Fecal. Although not required, we HIGHLY recommend the canine influenza vaccine.

  • Yes, puppies 4 months and older whom are fully vaccinates may attend daycare. For younger puppies who aren’t fully vaccinated, contact us for different care options.

  • We do not discriminate towards any breed. All breeds are welcome so long as they pass our temperament test.

  • We understand that there are many important factors that go into making the decision to alter your dog. Recently, there has been veterinary research that reports some benefits from waiting a little longer than what was previously recommended to spay or neuter. Equally, there are benefits to spaying and neutering before dogs become fully mature. At Paw Pals, we are focused on the health and safety of all the dogs that come play with us. Our main reason for requiring dogs to be altered is to reduce the potential levels of aggression that testosterone can create. It is not always the un-neutered male that can create the tension, but detectable hormones released by an intact dog can trigger other dogs to become more aggressive. Additionally, we have the reproductive concern for dogs in open play.

  • A meet and greet will be conducted on-site by one of our trained professionals with every dog before bringing them into a playroom. Our trained team with talk to the pet parent about the dog’s history and health. Once complete, the dog joins our team member in a separate room to observe how they react when away from their parent. During this time, we will conduct a snout to tail assessment to identify sensitivities in touch that the dog may have. If a dog is sensitive to touch in one area this is not necessarily an issue, but it is important for their comfort that our team is aware of any sensitivities.

We then begin bringing additional dogs into the controlled play area one at a time to assess the comfort level of the dog. Our team observes how the dog interacts with the other canines to determine their suitability for an open play environment.

If for some reason the dog is not yet ready for open play, the team member will recommend steps the parent can take to help address the observed issue(s). Any dog is always welcome to come back for a follow-up evaluation after any issues have been addressed.

This process assesses your dog’s temperament and determines if Paw Pals’s facility will be a right fit for your pet or our in-home services may be a better option for your pet.

  • Yes. All dogs go through a rotation of rest and play during the day to have a well balanced day while here. We utilize a “crate and rotate” system in order to prevent overstimulation (think of a toddler who begins acting up after missing a nap on a busy day), and teach the important skill of “settle.” This also allows us to separate the pups into ideally-sized play groups so that they receive plenty of one-on-one time and we can safely engage them in specialized enrichment and training activities designed to work out their brains as well as their bodies. Pups may be in group for an hour, and then napping in their kennel for an hour before returning to group again. Exact times are flexible based on the dogs’ needs, but will always include a minimum of 4-6 hours of active play throughout the day.

  • We only accept 30 dogs a day for daycare. We run 2 groups a day that max out at 15 dogs each. Dogs are separated by temperament first and then size. It is common to see large and small dogs mixed into each of out groups. We do have specialty small dog days where only small dogs are in group together.

  • Required vaccinations: Bordatella, Distemper, Rabies & Negative Fecal. The Canine Influenza Vaccine is highly recommended.

  • We do not, however you are welcome to call or email any time to check in on how your pet is doing and our friendly staff would be happy to provide you with an update. We do send you daily updates via our client portal and we also frequently post photos and videos on our social media pages.
